About Us

Puzzle by Knight is a three-generation family business handcrafting heirloom wooden puzzles in Maine. Every piece is cut by hand on a scroll saw — no lasers, no templates, no two puzzles exactly alike.

Jenell started woodworking in 2018 and cut her first jigsaw puzzle in 2020. She's been hooked ever since. She runs the business, designs every puzzle, and does much of the cutting — including all the freehand whimsies and figurals that make each puzzle feel alive. She also draws the charcoal and ink artwork behind several of the designs in the shop.

Marni — Jenell's mom — brings her own creativity and artistic eye to the scroll saw, cutting many of the puzzles you'll find here. Every piece she cuts is made with the same love and attention as if it were her own.

Paul — Jenell's grandfather, with 80+ years of life experience and counting — is the artist behind much of our imagery. He taught himself focus stacking, a technique that composites dozens of individual shots into a single image with extraordinary depth and detail. He even converted his off-grid log cabin into a photography studio to pursue it, much to his wife's chagrin. He also handles all the printing for our puzzles — his standards are something else. He'll reprint until it's just right, even when the rest of us can't tell the difference.

Puzzles have always been part of how our family spends time together — around the table, away from screens, doing something with our hands. Card games, jigsaw puzzles, just being present. That's what Puzzle by Knight is really about. We make puzzles we'd want in our own home, and we hope they find their way into yours.
